Question: The Tribe of Simeon in the Divided Kingdom

So I am a bit confused, and I suspect that between all of us we'll be able to straighten out my confusion!

In the map below, I see that the tribe of Simeon is surrounded by the tribe of Judah.

We know that the nation of Judah (the Southern Kingdom) is only made up of the tribe of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin (based on 1 Kings 12:21).

So the question is: What is Simeon's place in the Divided Kingdom?

(The goal of this blog is that will be a place where we can post our questions and thoughts freely and have discussion as each of us grow deeper in our walk with the Lord!)

  1. 10 tribes were stripped away which meant that Simeon was one of those tribes. Simeon was originally assigned the land you pictured but was absorbed into the other tribes (mostly Judah). It shrinks to half its size just between the two census in Duet. In Genesis 49: 5-7, Jacob predicts this for Levi and Simeon. So at the foundation of the nation of Judah only Judah and Benjamin are included as the main tribes. By that time Simeon has been absorbed or scattered into the other tribes. This oracle by Jacob lays the blame on their actions in retaliation for Dinah’s rape. Later towns once associated with Simeon’s inheritance are ascribed to Judah’s territory.
